KEEPING UP WITH TRADITION
by Sara on October 31st, 2008

With our favorite fair peeps, Jeff and Elyse.
This was the night I ruined a piece of my brother Jeff. It involved an incident in which he drank (bloody) gauze that came from my mouth. Yes, you read that right. Here’s what happened: I came home from a dentist appointment directly before going to the fair. Following my Dr.’s orders, exactly 10 minutes on the dot, I removed the gauze from my mouth and placed it in what I thought at the time was trash (aka – in his red plastic up). I repeat: I didn’t realize it was his cup, I thought it was trash! In my defense, the cup was empty – he refilled it after the fact, without paying attention to said object I had since placed in there. After a few sips, he looked at us puzzled by the weird “texture” in his mouth and asked, “Uhh, are there pieces of fruit in this juice? Bananas, maybe??” to which Dick, knowing what had just happened (he witnessed me placing the gauze in the cup), tried to break the news kindly with, “No… I don’t think so, but…………. I suggest not drinking, uh, out of that cup anymore.” Oh dear, that’s when we all knew, without having to say it out loud: the gauze which everybody saw me remove minutes earlier, had now circulated in more than 1 persons mouth. Poor guy. I wish I could take it back. Darn my habit of throwing trash into those red plastic cups!
LOVE FOR MR. NIELSON + NIE NIE
by Sara on October 30th, 2008

Nie Nie and her beloved Mr. Nielson are currently recovering from critical burns sustained in an airplane crash on August 16, 2008.
Like thousands of others around the world, I am devoted to following the recovery of this sweet couple through family updates from Nie Nie’s sister, c jane. I think we all feel connected to Nie Nie in one way or another; one of the many connections I share with her is our love for avocado pizza from La Grande Orange. : )
I picked up these beautiful silhouette cookies at this benefit event. Too pretty to eat, so I photographed them instead.
Wishing all the best thoughts in the world for this adorable family – and prayers that they return back to their charming life soon. Love for Nie!
BEHOLD, I INTRODUCE YOU TO BABY IRA
by Sara on October 25th, 2008

Dick pointed out baby Ira definitely has his daddy’s lips, eyebrows and ears, but he looks nothing like me.
Apparently this would be the result if we were to procreate; but no, I am not pregnant.
ALMOST FAMOUS FILM FESTIVAL
by Sara on October 25th, 2008

My brother Jeff recently participated in a 72-hour film challenge with his friends. The short they created is titled Be Prepared and won 3rd place in the festival. The top 20 films were shown at the downtown AMC theatre last night, so of course Dick and I were thrilled to venture over and see it on the big screen.
DEALING WITH THE PURGE
by Sara on October 23rd, 2008

Our record collection is for sale. Dick has been listing away on Amazon. I’m slowly getting past the attachment and am starting to look forward to the liberation. Moving will be so much easier. Another benefit? More shelf space for all my other junk.
I’m grateful for hard drives and ipods.
