THANKSGIVING VACATION 2008

by Sara on November 29th, 2008

We have spent the full week in Utah. It has been action-packed and fun-filled.

I feel like I’ve been picture-taking lazy, but here are some highlights of the trip…

Volunteering in Spencer’s kindergarten Thanksgiving feast.

Lots of hanging out with Dann and Jenn Potter… Particularly bowling in Salt Lake City. Dann is a pretty sick slick bowler.

Seeing both sides of Dick’s family on Thanksgiving. Pictured above are his grandmas – Fern Baldwin and Celia Jensen.

After a little bit of coaching, Dick can now focus a SLR lens.

Thanksgiving meal at Sundance was delicious. I wandered around and took photos after eating.

Thanksgiving 08 reminded me of how thankful I am for my awesome in-laws. We missed Cara during Thanksgiving day (she flew to Dallas to see the Cowboys play – trader!).

Eleanor Mae shows off her bedroom and reads Blueberries for Sal, one of my favorite books from childhood. Luckily we managed to squeeze some time with Julie, John and Eleanor before dropping them off at the airport. They’re on a big cruise ship in Mexico right now… luckies!

I bought Dick an early Christmas present – Ray Ban sunglasses. The prescription lenses will be ready just in time for a pre-Christmas road trip coming up soon.

My feet at Big City Soup. Their chowder was delicious. Thanks for taking us there, Dann and Jenn!

Dick and me driving around in chilly Utah air… listening to podcasts.

Other highlights included seeing the best vampire movie ever (no, not Twilight – though I did see that too). Rather, Let the Right One In. Incredible. We also partied with lots of family and friends, including: Danny Hurley, Ned Clayton, Wynona & Jared Robison and co. (kids Silas and Gideon), Jake Suazo and his new wife Julie, Dave & Valerie Christensen, John & Whitney Burdick and co. (kids Nico and Ari). I’m sleepy and know I’m missing others, but it was great to see everybody.

We leave in the morning — I’m trying to keep my head up and not be too depressed.

We found bulk PiƱons in Farmington!
Expensive, but worth every cent.

AMY & DAVEY TIED THE KNOT

by Sara on November 25th, 2008

I didn’t take many photos of the day because the most-awesome Jonathan Canlas was in town to capture the event (as seen below; yes, I am a dorky fan, snapping pictures of him in action).

Here are some memories of the day as seen by my camera:

IN LOVE WITH A VIEW

I spent last week in Los Angeles on a business trip. I was a little ashamed confessing to Dick, but darn it, turns out I really like SoCal afterall.

Aside from work stuff, highlights of my trip included: dinner with co-worker Karen and her husband Jim at La Creperie in Long Beach, Tito’s Tacos in Culver City, seeing a Clipper’s NBA player while eating Cuban food in Manhattan Beach, and walking along the pier at Hermosa Beach. And while driving around to and from each of these places, I had the pleasure of listening to awesome music on a really cool radio station (Broadcast, Brian Eno, Joy Division, Belle & Sebastian, Deerhunter, and Cocteau Twins… just to name a few of the bands I heard on the air).

I’m looking for my next excuse to venture back to the coast… The ocean is calling my name.

My new nephew is tiny and sweet. We bonded earlier this week — I’m already smitten with him.

I’m also digging dudette and the dudes in totally rad 80s shades. Especially Tim’s face in the left image.
